What are the photo size requirements?

To ensure your listing displays correctly and attracts potential buyers (photos are the first thing people notice), all images must be accurate, non-misleading, and high quality. MLS regulations and copyright laws set these rules, not Beycome.

Minimum resolution and orientation

  • Minimum resolution: 640 × 480 pixels
  • Recommended resolution: 1600 × 1200 pixels at 72 dpi
  • Orientation: horizontal (landscape, 4:3)

Horizontal photos display better across MLS systems and major real estate websites.

File format and size limits

  • Accepted format: JPG
  • Maximum file size: 10 MB per photo

Files that exceed these limits often fail to upload or the MLS may reject them.

First photo requirements

The first photo must show the exterior of the property, a rendering, an aerial view, or a water view. This is an MLS requirement and ensures proper display across all platforms.

If you upload photos previously used in another listing, the MLS requires written authorization from the photographer or written permission to use the images. MLS rules strictly prohibit using photos taken by another agent without permission, and some MLSs automatically reject listings that reuse agent photos without proper authorization.

Do not use photos from the internet (Google, Facebook, or other sites), even if they are labeled “free to use.” Copyright violations have resulted in fines of up to $25,000 under the digital Copyright Millennium Act.

You must be able to provide proof of authorization if requested.

Content restrictions

Photos must comply with MLS rules, copyright laws, and contact-information restrictions:

  • Photos cannot show real people or animals
  • Photos cannot include contact information, Commission ( or any financial informations), websites, text overlays, watermarks, logos, or branding
  • You cannot alter, enhance, or generate photos using AI tools.
  • MLS rules do not allow lifestyle photos or virtual tours that feature people, including people in costume.

MLSs and third-party platforms strictly enforce these rules.

Photo quality guidelines

Photos should be clear, well-lit, and accurately represent the property. MLS systems may flag, reject, or remove images that do not meet quality, copyright, or content standards.

Following these guidelines helps avoid delays, compliance issues, and listing interruptions, keeping your property live and visible across all platforms.
