If you’re curious about its storied past, you’ll be fascinated to know that Skibo Castle was once home to one of the wealthiest men in the world — Andrew Carnegie. In fact, this legendary industrialist, business magnate, and philanthropist left a lasting legacy that still shapes the estate’s grandeur today. Carnegie moved to the United States when he was 13 to escape the economic depression of 1848. In 1898, motivated by a desire to reconnect with his Scottish roots, Andrew Carnegie purchased Skibo Castle. Shortly afterward, he began an extensive multi-million-pound renovation project, undertaken entirely for his daughter.
