What is Environmental Impact Statement?

An environmental impact statement (EIS) is a document that is prepared as part of the environmental review process for a proposed project. An EIS is used to assess the potential impacts of a project on the environment, including natural and cultural resources, and to identify any measures that may be taken to mitigate or prevent those impacts. An EIS may be required by law or by other regulatory agencies for certain types of projects, such as large-scale development, transportation, or energy projects, and it may be used to inform decision-making and to provide a basis for public comment and involvement.
