What is Equifax?

Equifax is one of the three major credit reporting agencies in the United States, along with Experian and TransUnion. Equifax is a privately held company that collects and maintains credit and financial information on millions of consumers and businesses. Equifax sells this information to lenders, landlords, and other interested parties, who use it to assess the creditworthiness or financial stability of applicants. Equifax also provides credit monitoring and identity protection services to consumers, and it is subject to federal and state laws that regulate the accuracy, privacy, and security of credit reporting.
