What does Ground Rent mean?

Ground rent refers to the rent that a tenant pays for the use of a piece of land. It is usually paid annually and is separate from any rent paid for a building or structure on the land. Ground rent is commonly paid for leasehold properties where the tenant does not own the land, but has the right to use it for a specific period of time.
